Eco-Friendly Packaging & Sustainable Hazmat Labeling

Balancing regulatory compliance with environmental responsibility since 1983

Our Environmental Commitment

As North America's leading provider of dangerous goods labeling, we recognize our responsibility to minimize environmental impact while maintaining the highest safety standards. Our eco-friendly packaging initiatives combine FSC-certified materials, recyclable substrates, and carbon-neutral operations.

Since launching our Green Label Initiative in 2018, we've diverted 847 metric tons of label waste from landfills through our recycling program. Our Chicago manufacturing facility achieved carbon-neutral certification in March 2023 through a combination of renewable energy procurement, process optimization, and verified carbon offset projects.

Every hazmat label we produce balances two critical requirements: uncompromising DOT/IATA compliance and measurable environmental benefit. This isn't marketing rhetoric—it's verified through third-party audits and transparent reporting.

Sustainable Manufacturing Practices

Measurable environmental improvements across our operations

Recyclable Materials

We've reformulated 87% of our label products to use fully recyclable substrates without compromising DOT/IATA compliance or durability requirements.

  • Paper labels: 100% recyclable in standard paper streams (tested with WestRock recycling facilities)
  • Vinyl labels: Switched to PET polyester (recyclable #1) from PVC where specifications allow
  • Adhesives: Water-based acrylic formulations replace solvent-based systems (62% reduction in VOC emissions)
  • Release liners: Glassine liners are recyclable; silicone-coated liners accepted through our take-back program
Verified Impact (2024): 412 metric tons of label materials recycled through municipal programs vs. 89 tons in 2019 (363% increase)

Clean Energy

Our 127,000 sq ft Chicago facility transitioned to 100% renewable energy in January 2023 through a combination of on-site solar and wind power purchasing agreements.

  • Solar installation: 847 kW rooftop array (installed April 2022) generates 38% of facility power
  • Wind PPA: 20-year agreement with Midwest wind farms supplies remaining 62%
  • LED conversion: Completed facility-wide LED retrofit in 2021 (47% lighting energy reduction)
  • Equipment upgrades: Replaced 4 legacy flexographic presses with energy-efficient digital systems (31% energy savings per label produced)
Annual Savings: 1,247 MWh energy consumption vs. 2019 baseline. Equivalent to removing 187 cars from roads annually.

Zero Waste Initiative

Achieved 92% landfill diversion rate in 2024 (up from 54% in 2018) through comprehensive waste management and process optimization.

  • Matrix waste: Label die-cutting waste (647 tons/year) now recycled through partnership with Pratt Industries
  • Ink waste: Solvent recovery system captures 89% of unused inks for reprocessing
  • Packaging materials: Corrugated shipping boxes are 100% recycled content and fully recyclable
  • Water usage: Closed-loop water recycling reduced consumption by 64% since 2020 (from 2.8M to 1.0M gallons/year)
2024 Achievement: Only 67 tons sent to landfill vs. 819 tons total waste generated (92% diversion rate)
